Ubisoft’s free-to-play competitive shooter XDefiant launched in late May 2024 to strong praise and enthusiasm from its audience base. While there’s still improvements to be made, the XDefiant community is in rude health, with many players diving in daily for new matches, new seasonal content, and new rewards. But as with all live service games, the march of time is approaching – and even a week in, players are already ruminating on what the future holds.
One data miner has taken matters into their own hands, doing a deep dive into the game to discover a plethora of new factions that may be arriving in future. As shared by Rogue TX on Twitter/X via Kotaku, there are four new factions likely set to hit XDefiant over the coming year: Assassins (Asssassin’s Creed), Operators (Ghost Recon Breakpoint), GSG9 (Rainbow Six Siege), and The Highwaymen (Far Cry: New Dawn).
That isn’t the juicy part of this alleged leak, however. Because the factions listed here are fairly standard, and exactly what you’d expect from new seasons of content in XDefiant. The real surprise is that Rogue TX discovered evidence that factions based on The Crew – and more importantly the Rabbids – could be coming to the game in future.
Let’s set aside The Crew for a moment. A driving-based faction in XDefiant would be strange, but at least there’s still humans driving those cars, and they wouldn’t look out of place on the battlefield. What I really need to know more about is this alleged Rabbids faction.

Give the Rabbids guns
How would that work? I desperately want the actual Rabbids to be in the game, because the idea of muddy, grungy humans wielding guns going up against the Rabbids – bizarre, humanoid rabbits that love to scream and fight – is hilarious. Please give them guns.
I suspect any Rabbids faction would more likely be humans dressed as Rabbids, but we can all dream, right? At the very least, I hope Ubisoft gives them bunny ears, or some appropriately unhinged sound bites. Any Rabbids faction in XDefiant should rightfully cause chaos, should they actually be planned for the game.
Given the hints shared by Rogue TX – many of which have been taken down in DMCA filings – seemingly originate from unused files, there’s still a chance the Rabbids faction is an unrealised idea, but for now, hope remains alive. Ubisoft has the potential to do something absolutely wild here, and we’d love to see it happen.
As Kotaku says, including the Rabbids should open the floodgates to even more weird and wonderful crossover factions in XDefiant – potentially even Just Dance. Now that would certainly be a blast.
We’ll have to stay tuned to see what Ubisoft has planned, and whether that all-important Rabbids faction does eventually manifest. You can learn more about XDefiant on the Ubisoft website.
