Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical from the Melbourne-based Summerfall Studios, has been nominated in the 2024 Grammy Awards, as part of the Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media category, alongside a number of other video games.
Jess Serro (Montaigne), Tripod, and Austin Wintory are named in the nomination, for their work on guiding the musical direction of the game – although it’s also fair to celebrate performers like Laura Bailey, Anjali Bhimani, Troy Baker, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, and Ashley Johnson for their contributions.
As composer Austin Wintory put it on Twitter/X, work on the game was a “quintessential team effort.” Not only did work on the game require the input of multiple collaborators, it was also a cross-continent effort, with the team working within Australia, and remotely.

Elsewhere in the Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media category, a number of other deserving game soundtracks have been given nods, including Bear McCreary’s God of War Ragnarok soundtrack, Sarah Schachner’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack, and Stephen Barton and Gordy Haab’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor soundtrack. The music of Hogwarts Legacy has also been nominated.
Here’s the full list of nominees:
- Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 – Sarah Schachner, Composer
- God of War Ragnarok – Bear McCreary, Composer
- Hogwarts Legacy – Peter Murray, J Scott Rakozy, Chuck E. Myers “SEA”, Composers
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Stephen Barton and Gordy Haab, Composers
- Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical – Jess Serro, Tripod and Austin Wintory, Composers
Stray Gods is unique among these nominees, as its soundtrack is the crux of gameplay, and changes with every playthrough. Each song included has multiple variants, with each defined by players and their choice of narrative approach. It’s likely this interactivity and fluidity is what partially inspired this well-deserved Grammy nomination.
We wish all the nominees luck at the 2024 Grammy Awards. The award ceremony will take place on 5 February 2024.
