Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has not-so-subtly admitted that the Borderlands team are working on something new, giving audiences the biggest hint at a new game we’ve seen so far.

In an interview with The Gamer, Pitchford said, “I don’t think I’ve done a good enough job of hiding the fact that we’re working on something. And I think people that love Borderlands are going to be very excited about what we’re working on.”

“These are fuzzy words, but sooner rather than later, we’re going to be talking about what we’ve been working on, and I can’t wait.”

The news comes off the back of rumours around both Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2, especially after a LinkedIn profile slip-up created a whirlwind of hype late last year. While Pitchford remained tight-lipped about the timeline of the new game – and indeed, the nature of it – we know that we’ll be seeing something from the universe “sooner rather than later”.

“I think I’m genetically made to try and create joy and happiness, and build entertainment. I love movies and I love video games, I love entertainment,” said Pitchford. “So I’m grateful that we have so many great things coming with Borderlands, and I can’t wait to talk about the stuff that we’re working on with our fans.”

While there’s still a chance that Pitchford could be talking about an entirely different direction, it certainly appears that there will be news on the horizon for Borderlands fans hoping for a fourth instalment – though at this stage, only time will tell.

Until then, we have the upcoming Eli Roth Borderlands film to look forward to, starring Australia’s own Cate Blanchett. The final trailer released just five days ago, featuring a stack of additional action, though audience sentiment remains mixed (at best) ahead of release. Check out the full trailer below.
