The PC Gaming Show 2022 promised 40+ game reveals and two hours of major announcements, news and updates – and boy howdy, it sure delivered. There was plenty of excellence in this showcase, with work from indie developers and AAA studios shining on a digital stage. If you weren’t excited about the future of PC gaming before, well, let’s just say there’s now a horde of reasons to get keen – and stay keen.
Here’s everything announced during the PC Gaming Show 2022.
This article has been updated since its original publication.
Soulstice is an action RPG featuring souls and monsters
The first trailer of the show kicked off with a voicerover about chaos, and the end of the world. There’s a touch of Final Fantasy about this game, with the protagonist seemingly wielding a type of Buster Sword. Enemies shown off included a range of demons, monsters and Eldritch beasts, so expect there to be plenty of wild, over-the-top combat during this adventure.
Soulstice launches on 20 September 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC.
Rotwood is a cutesy fighting adventure
The next trailer was for Rotwood, a cartoonish monster-slaying adventure.
It’s in early access in 202? – so expect to hear more about it at a later date.
This was swiftly followed by a look at isometric XCOM-like, Tactical Breach Wizards, which stars a bunch of wizards with guns. It appears hearty combat and nice conversations will bulk out gameplay in this title.
The Invincible: Gameplay Trailer
The first gameplay trailer for The Invincible, a narrative exploration game, was introduced during the PC Gaming Show 2022. It kicked off with a romp through a sandy planet, into a spooky space station – that’s right, another spooky space station – and out the other side, to more sandy rocks, and evidence of strange life.
A robot then appeared, and seemed to run in circles. Then, another robot came to life and completely blasted the first robot to bits in short order.
The Invincible did not receive a release date.
Endless Dungeon is a tactical rougelike from Sega and Amplitude
The next trailer was from Sega and Amplitude, and featured gunslingers with ‘guts’ fighting through a spooky dungeon. You can play this isometric, tactical shooter in co-op or solo, with plenty of robots to destroy along the way. This is Endless Dungeon, and beta sign ups are available now.
Then came F1 Manager, a new racing simulator featuring fluctuating weather, race incidents, and other factors that will impact your ability to ensure management success, and keep your drivers happy.
Next up in, the Chivalry 2 team hyped up a brand new content update for the recently-released game.
Deceive, Inc. is a spy thriller taking cues from Deathloop
The next trailer was for Deceive, Inc., a new spy thriller where players will roam a colourful building attempting to pull off spy tricks and espionage with every tool at their disposal. This adventure looks extremely colourful and fun – and seems to feature much of the same gameplay as Deathloop.
It arrives in early 2023.
New Zealand-made game Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn (A44 Games) then got another look-in after also putting in the work during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022. The trailer featured was also in the morning show – although this one was accompanied by a developer presentation where A44 Games hyped up the game’s eventual release.
The Alters is a weird horror romp set in space
The PC Gaming Show next revealed The Alters, from 11 bit studios (Children of Morta, This War of Mine). This adventure is set on a spooky space station and features a male protagonist seemingly losing his mind in the long white corridors of his station home. As he wanders these corridors in the trailer, he stumbles upon a team of people seemingly operating on his body – oh, and also all of the people on the ship have his face.
That would explain the name of the game.
It’s coming to PC, although it does not currently have a release date.
In a post-trailer chat, a developer discussed how the alternative versions of the game’s protagonist will create confusion, pain, and uniqueness in the game’s story.
Outriders: Worldslayer got a snazzy new trailer
Outriders: Worldslayer was up next. This title is the next chapter in the online multiplayer battle game, and will bring new villains and heroes to the forefront. It arrives on 30 June 2022.
Potion Craft was up next. This potion-themed game lets players go on quests to create the perfect potion in a kind of Cook, Serve, Delicious! way – medieval peasants and knights will line up to be served on a constant basis. It leaves early access in Spring 2022 (Southern Hemisphere).
Then came Super Animal Royale, an adorable, cartoony battle simulator that lets you send animals into massive battles with guns. This game is already released, but is being frequently updated.
This was followed by Nitro Kid, a pixel-style strategy fighter where you play a karate-chopping bad arse on a mission. The action is controlled by cards, and it appears there’ll be 80s-style cutscenes to break up gameplay.
Nitro Kid was followed by Mahōkenshi, a card-based action game that takes place on beautiful, isometric, tile-based landscapes. It arrives in 2023.
Then we got a trailer for The Killing Floor 2: Tidal Terror, a new update to the long-running game.
The Arma 4 team also gave an update on their game, and changes coming in future. According to developers speaking at the PC Gaming Show, the team behind the scenes is currently working to depict war respectfully through education and entertainment-based content.
The team also hyped up the launch of mod support for the game, which will allow players to hop in and design anything they like with a new Workshop tool.
Abyssals and Decarnation are two very different games from Shiro Unlimited
Developer Shiro Unlimited kicked off its own mini-showcase with a new look at an update for Dune: Spice Wars, which launched in April, as well as new updates for Northgard and Wartales.
The studio also revealed two new games.
The first is set in an underwater realm, and appears to be some kind of city coloniser. It’s Abyssals, and it’s coming in 2023.
The second game was a narrative adventure featuring horror, surrealism, and a journey through a terrifying labyrinth. Demons and spooky creatures abound in Decarnation, also coming in 2023.
I Am Future is a futuristic city builder filled with weirdness
In I Am Future, players enter a seemingly idyllic world and build out their perfect home. It does appear there’s some weirdness in this title, as a seagull explodes into a skeleton in the trailer, and not everything appears to be quite right. That said, there looks to be some excellent city-building aspects to this game, which should make it a fun and relaxing time.
It’s coming in 2022.
This was followed by a trailer for Great Houses of Calderia, which appears to be a fresh 4X strategy game.
Next up, Jurassic World Evolution 2‘s upcoming DLC chapter was dated for 14 June 2022.
System Shock got a brand new gameplay trailer
Next up, we got a creepy gameplay trailer for System Shock, starring a robotic voice taunting the game’s protagonist, and hyping up its own creepy abilities and power.
This game appears to be a reboot, although not much is known about where it fits into the franchise’s canon. It was Kickstarted in 2016, and has been in development since then. It does not have a release date yet.
Following this, we got another trailer for upcoming battle game Super People – the same trailer from Summer Game Fest.
Sam Barlowe’s Immortality got a brand new trailer
Sam Barlowe’s upcoming thriller Immortality got a PC Gaming showcase next – this game is all about an upcoming actress who mysteriously disappeared, with her last moments and life existing only on tape. As an investigator, it’s your job to discover exactly what happened to her, and why her disappearance is so intriguing.
It arrives on 26 July 2022 for PC and consoles.
Then we got a trailer for Nivalis, a cyberpunk city simulator where players can seemingly explore a neon-drenched world, fish, and complete a number of other activities. You’ll be able to manage a restaurant, according to developers, or take days off for leisure activities. It’s a little bit Cyberpunk 2077, and a little bit Animal Crossing for good measure.
Demonschool is a creepy adventure coming in 2023
Necrosoft then introduced Demonschool from ysbryd games, a spooky adventure where four pixellated players travel through a horror landscape, taking part in turn-based strategy battles while attempting to escape their fate. It appears this game may partially (or fully) take place in the underworld, with strange demons and terrifying landscapes being featured throughout the trailer.
Demonschool arrives in 2023.
Scorn is packed with enough body horror to make you wheeze
Scorn was up next, and this game really looks like it’s going to lean into the H.R. Giger brand of bloody, slimy, veiny body horror. Between this trailer, and the recent Xbox and Bethesda one, it’s very clear this game will be a visceral experience – potentially one that may have trouble getting past the Australian ratings board, if we’re being honest.
Time will tell with this disgusting-looking experience.
It’s coming 21 October 2022.
This trailer was followed by a game that looked family-friendly in comparison: Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. Developers chatted about the lore behind the upcoming title, as well as the excitement of gameplay.
Then we had Agent 64: Spies Never Die, a game heavily inspired by Goldeneye and its blocky aesthetic. It’s coming in 2022, with a demo now available.
Next, Deliver Us Mars took to space with an adventure starring a woman romping through a space station and overcoming galactic storms on Mars. It’s coming 27 September 2022 for PC and consoles.
Stormgate got a major gameplay showcase
Stormgate, another returnee from Summer Game Fest, was next. Frost Giant Studios was given a showcase where developers discussed how they planned to create the ‘next evolution’ of RTS strategy games. The team discussed more about the game’s lore, how demons have invaded the game’s setting, and also showed off pre-alpha cinematics depicting a demon enemy.
Beta testing starts in 2023, and players are able to sign up now.
Another core focus of the discussion was how developers used their experience with StarCraft and other real-time strategy games to create a smooth, modern experience. The game has massive expectations on it, but early glimpses look very promising.
Next was Laysara: Summit Kingdom, a new 4X strategy game where players can build out cities on mountains, across rivers, and along bridges. It looks like realms won’t strictly be flat in this game, which is a nice change from other 4X games. It’s coming Q1 2023.
Then we got a trailer for Frozen Flame, an adventure-exploration sim where players can travel together, fight enemies, and explore mysterious realms with combat and shapeshifting abilities. It’s coming Spring 2022 (Southern Hemisphere).
Following this, Victoria 3 (Paradox Interactive) showed off an Industrial Revolution-era sim where you can create your own character, and enter a world in turmoil. You’ll be able to invest in politics and morals, or the economy and trade in this 4X strategy game – whatever floats your boat. The revolution will be at your fingertips as you decide what sort of society you want to help create.
Gloomwood finally got its trailer at the PC Gaming Show
Following this was a flash reel for upcoming games from publisher/developer New Blood, including Ultrakill Act 2, Faith: The Unholy Trinity, Fallen Aces and Dusk HD. CEO Dave Oshry appeared to hype up the release of Gloomwood post-trailer, and made fun of PC Gamer for ‘forgetting’ to show the game in 2021.
While it missed out last year, Gloomwood finally got a showing during the 2022 PC Gaming Show.
It included new looks at the game’s weapons and combat, as well as its stealth mechanics, retro-inspired gameplay, and a number of hideous-looking beasts. Gloomwood arrives in early access on 16 August 2022.
Next was a trailer for backfirewall, a meta, techno-inspired game starring a very cute robot. It’s a game about a system that simply doesn’t want to update, and the struggles of its developer. It’s coming in 2022.
We also got a trailer for Norland, a medieval fighting and living simulator where the plague is rife, and murder is common. It appears to take a Rimworld-style approach to story generation.
After this, Them’s Fightin’ Herds appeared, the brawling game heavily inspired by My Little Pony. It’s available now on Steam, with Shanty DLC going free.
Next, Core Keeper: Sunken Sea DLC was announced as coming on 15 June 2022 – it features a number of slimy sea creatures, and a cosy homestead.
Farthest Frontier also got a cinematic story trailer. This is another medieval-era adventure – although this one follows peasants as they travel from their homeland in search of a better life.
The next game was Synergy, a bright, cel-shaded adventure game set in the future. It appears to a RollerCoaster Tycoon-style city simulator, with players able to build out their lands, set off on expeditions and quests, and foster a thriving community. It was not given a release date.
A trailer for Icarus‘s Styx DLC followed. This update appears to add in a number of creepy beasts – and it’s available now.
Half-Life Alyx: Levitation is a 4-5 hour mod campaign
Next up was a major showcase for Half-Life Alyx mod, Levitation. This mod is described as a 4-5 hour story-based campaign created by hobby developer – and it appears to be extremely polished. The Half-Life series is known for welcoming fan expansions, and this looks to be just as intriguing as the additions of the past.
The mod teases a sequel to Gordon Freeman’s story, although how much the beloved character will appear in this mod is unknown. Whatever the case, it looks like an appropriately creepy adventure, and one filled with danger around every corner.
It even features a very nifty hacking mini-game.
Half-Life: Alyx – Levitation launches for PC in 2022.
This concluded the PC Gaming Show 2022.
